    What this module is about

    This is the module that moves from vocabulary to perception. Module 2 gave you the names of things; this one is about noticing them when nobody has told you they are there. It is the hardest module to teach and the most valuable to have learned, because the information arrives incomplete, ambiguous, at the wrong moment, and frequently from someone who is not sure they want to be telling you.

    Read it holding two things at once. Lists of indicators are useful, because a person who has never been told what to look for does not see it. They are also dangerous, because an indicator raises a question and never supplies an answer.

    By the end of this module, you will be able to:

    • Name the five routes by which harm reaches you, and identify the one your setting is closed to.
    • Explain why disclosure is partial, and why manner tells you nothing about truth.
    • Use indicators in children and in adults as questions rather than conclusions.
    • Describe grooming as a slow, kind-looking, staged process, and say which stages you will actually see.
    • Recognise how a congregation is groomed, and answer spiritual framing with structural questions.
    • Identify technology-facilitated abuse and explain why unrecorded private contact is indefensible.
    • Act on a concern about a colleague without investigating, consulting widely, or warning them.
    • Assemble fragments into a pattern, and build the mechanism that makes that possible.

    Assessment

    Twenty questions drawn at random from a bank of sixty, twenty-five minutes, eighty per cent to pass, two attempts, highest grade. It covers this module only.
